The library is cyclical. The zoo was as well. It tends to be a common theme among jobs that I've had. I process the academic journals, collapse completed volumes and the next day there are always new issues in the inbox. It doesn't end. Books are checked out, books are returned, books are shelved. People come to the zoo, garbages fill up, garbages are changed. Grass is mowed. The cyclical nature of my work may be why it's lost its luster. I used to love the zoo, I loved the library. Full summers at these jobs made me realize how trivial my actions were.
Ohh, but projects. Give me a special project and the enthusiasm of days gone by has no choice but to return. Combine the current journals with the old issues? No problem! Make new tags for all of the shelves? I'd love to! Lay the weird seed paper in the Australian yard because the 'roos ate the grass that used to live there down to the roots? Count me in. Some of my enthusiasm for the library was renewed today when I got to work on a new project. It sounds mundane, but shifting microfiche was amazing. There was pattern, there was purpose, and above all, there was an end in sight. God, I hope I like teaching. I like projects, and I like creating things. I've enjoyed student teaching, but I don't feel like it's what I expected. I don't really have to do much. I look forward to designing curriculum and coming up with awesome projects for the kids to do. Projects with an end in sight. I like finality.
Zac and I can pick up our keys in less than two weeks. I think that'll be nice. I still have to find a subletter, but I'm thinking that if I don't have one in the next two weeks, I'll throw in some additional deal like $100 off the first three months or something, to see if that would attract a renter. I'm really looking forward to the move, though. I think everyone I know has heard about it now, and seen pictures of the floor plan and everything. Everyone I talk to with any regularity has heard about Zac's being an extra in Public Enemies, as well. I talk a lot, I think.
That's another thing that's made this week at the library lovely. There's someone besides Alando to talk to. I've gotten to see Emily and Keli and even bonded a bit with Suzy. It's been a nice week. I think I'll be glad to get back to school, though. Time goes by a lot faster when I've got school, and with today being the first day of spring, I'd like it to hurry up and warm up. Summer will be exquisite. I can't wait.
TJ's birthday party is on Monday. Alicia said she's going to come. I feel like I have to hold back the excitement, so that any impending disappointment isn't as disappointing. I'm really looking forward to it, though. :)
